Title: 牧笛/mù dí/The Shepherd's Flute

CHN

oh dididi dididi di di
你这一生我唯一的期待

dididi dididi di di
我注定是一辈子缠绵纠缠

dididi dididi di di
我注定是一辈子缠绵纠缠

天蚕也吐不尽
我对你思念惆怅
我也只能夜夜地望着
那每一次鹊桥两岸

TRANSLATION
On a faraway piece of meadow
There's a kind young man
He shepherds his herds diligently everyday
Loneliness is his best partner

One day, the old, golden cow led him to the banks of Jing Lake (Mirror Lake)[1]
The fairies were showering and combing their hair
Without reason, he gathered the courage to pick up a piece of garment
And all of a sudden, the world began to tremble

The constellations of Love[2] has already descended for you
This lifetime of yours, this only hope of mine
Rains of the Night of Sevens[3] has come down for me
I am destined to be in the tangling and lingering Love for the entire lifetime

The heavenly silkworms[4] can not even produce
The longing I feel for you
I can only hope to see through, night after night
The opposite side of the Magpie Bridge[5]

The true heart that offended the celestial laws, what should it do?
Oh, so a perfect match like this is to be judged by others
The endless Love of yours and mine
Even the stars of Milky Way cannot separate us

The constellations of Love[2] has already descended for you
This lifetime of yours, this only hope of mine
Rains of the Night of Sevens[3] has come down for me
I am destined to be in the tangling and lingering Love for the entire lifetime

The heavenly silkworms[4] can not even produce
The longing I feel for you
I can only hope to see through, night after night
The opposite banks of the Magpie Bridge[5]

Everytime when I'm unable to stop myself from missing you
Please listen carefully to the tune from my flute
Maybe then the Emperor and Empress[6] of the Heavens will cry for me

oh dididi dididi di di
This lifetime of yours, this only hope of mine

dididi dididi di di
I am destined to be in the tangling and lingering Love for the entire lifetime

dididi dididi di di
I am destined to be in the tangling and lingering Love for the entire lifetime

The heavenly silkworms[4] can not even produce
The longing I feel for you
I can only hope to see through, night after night
The opposite banks of the Magpie Bridge[5]

Notes:
*This song is essentially based on the tale of Niu Lang and Zhi Nu. If you are interested, please see this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qi_Xi
1, 镜湖, Jing Hu, is a real lake that resides in An Hui Province, China.
2, I translated 红銮心, Hong Luan Xin to the constellations of Love. The first word,  红, literally means red. The second, 銮, refers to an ancient mythical bird, somewhat like a pheonix. The third, 心 (xin), means heart and sounds similar to 星(xing), star. The phrase used in this song originated from 红鸾星动, which means that someone, usually a girl, is going to meet her prince charming. It originated from a legend of 龙吉公主, Long Ji Princess, who was once a fairy in the heaven. However, she was too attached to the mortal world and was then banished from the heaven. She then met a general, and with the help of the 月老, Yue Lao, the matchmaker of Chinese mythology, got married to him. Later on, during the troubled times, she was killed by other deities, along with her husband. Her deity name was 红鸾星, Hong Luan Xin.
3, The Night of Sevens refers to 七夕, which is the seventh day of seventh month on the lunar calendar. It is also known as the Magpie Festival or Chinese Valentine. It is also the only day in a year that Niu Lang can meet Zhi Nu. The rain of that night is also known to be the tears of this tragic couple.
4, Okay, the words used in the lyrics referred to Giant Silkworms. But I thought it to be highly unsuitable and changed it to Heavenly Silkworms because the character 天 in 天蚕 (Giant Silkworms) also referred to the skies or heavens.
5, During the Night of Sevens, all the magpies in the world will come together to form a bridge so that Niu Lang and Zhi Nu can meet.
6, The heaven, or the celestial world, is governed by 玉皇大帝, The Emperor God. And he has a wife, the Empress.
